This challenge was so much fun. I tore some strips of canvas, layered them over a gesso coated and painted 5x7 piece of canvas. I stamped the strips, misted, inked the whole thing and wove the pieces with twine. The flower was such a blast to create as well.

THE POST CARD EXCHANGE IS FILLED. I'LL BE IN TOUCH WITH THE ELEVEN WHO HAVE SIGNED UP AS SOON AS I HEAR BACK FROM EVERYONE ON THEIR ADDRESSES, MONTH AND THEME PREFERENCES, IF ANY.

I posted recently about the lost art of writing. Cursive is no longer being taught in many schools due to time constraints and the belief that 'handwriting' is unnecessary and perhaps archaic. I am sad.
As much as I enjoy emails, I LOVE getting handwritten mail. It seems the only time it comes now is Christmas.
I invite 11 of you who believe as I do and who also love to create to take part in a post card exchange. Each month you will create ONE post card (can even be a reproduction of a vintage one) and send it to the person who is to be honored that month. And so on...till all 12 of us receive 12 postcards during our one month of the year. The recipient can either pick a theme for us for her month or she can leave it up to our whimsy!
If you are interested, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. We would not start until July at the earliest. Hoping to hear from YOU!

and look what I found. I remember doing the project on the left at Owl and the Pussycat (amazing stamp art store in Ft. Myers, Fl)about six years ago. We stamped on tissue paper and used UTEE in several layers to cover. I learned so much from the owner, Reginia. And the other piece was one of my attempts to duplicate what I had learned in class. Just seeing these two pieces brought back such lovely memories...perhaps I need to clean out closets more often!

We have become a nation that picks up the phone, text messages, IMs, emails, chats via the web and Skypes. Inspired by great aunt and my aunt's post card collections that I inherited, I suggested to Pam Bennett with whom I shared a shift at A Cherry on Top's National Scrapbook Day weekend cyber crop, that for our Fast Scrap (a project to be finished in one hour) we challenge the members to design their own post card in the hopes they would send them to friends or family.
This is my post card. I printed a picture I took of the beach onto canvas and colored parts to emphasize the Kodakcrome color look of post cards of the 40s and 50s. I found a site that had hundreds of backs of postcards that could be printed out so I did and used colored pastel pencils to add a bit of pretty to the design.
I am sending my post card to a dear friend...will it be you?
EDITED to add link to post card backs
